Hot Wheels scored a coup on this model. They worked with the GM design team so they actually released this model before the debut of the first 1:1 C6. This is the roadster with removable top. They also did the hardtop.

Rich, those Mattel C6's are just about perfect.  I have three of them.  In total now, I have 10 1/12th scale Corvettes.  I'm waiting for one of the manufacturers to come out with the new C8 in 1/12th.

I wish someone would issue the '53 in 1/12th and also a C4 version.  I'd be a happy clam.

I actually have a huge model of the '53 made by Ideal. A switch on the dashboard worked the headlights from a D battery under the removable upper half of the engine. That area was big enough for me to hide my cigarettes in it as a teenager. It has a removable clear plastic top. It's hardly a precision model but it still looks impressive. I got it as a kid sometime in the early-mid 50s and I'm trying to remember if it came as a kit.

@rich-sufficool - Wow!  You're bringing back memories!  I had that car when I was a kid!  I did manage to get the headlights to work too!  I'm gonna see if I can find it on the Internet!

With everything going resin these days I'd be surprised if we see anything in 1/12 diecast anymore. A 1/12 diecast C7 or C8 would be sweet though. Here's a modded 1/12 C6 from a few years back. I had the wheels chromed and a friend of mine painted the flames...
