The Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 was dominate during the 1930s in virtually every class. Its Rootes supercharged, 2900 cc straight 8 with rear transaxle began as the "Corto" or short wheelbase open wheel grand prix racer and by 1937, the "Lungo" or long wheel base became a winning grand touring car in both spyder and berlinetta bodies. These were the 2900B variants. By that time, it had a steel tubular frame with aluminum bodies giving them the extra moniker of "Superleggera" or 'light weight' The apex predator was the 1938 8C 2900B Le Mans Speciale with its unique Touring built streamlined body.

As to the grand touring 8C 2900B Lungos, Franklin Mint made the '37 Spyder variant and White Box the Berlinetta. While the White Box is not quite up to the FM standards, they make a nice couple on the shelf worthy of their historical importance.

The 1947 Oldsmobile Country Club Coupe is a great example of the immediate postwar American automobile market, when carmakers were blending prewar styling cues with fresh consumer optimism. With its wood-bodied wagon styling, it carries all the charm collectors look for in a classic “woody,” while still reflecting Oldsmobile’s reputation for comfort, quality, and understated style. It is the kind of car that stands out not because it is flashy, but because it captures a very specific moment in automotive history.

235764

That appeal carries over nicely into scale-model collecting as well. SMTS produced a model of the Country Club Coupe for Conquest as CON70, giving collectors a chance to own a finely done miniature of a body style that has always had a loyal following. Woodies occupy a special place in many collections, and postwar examples like this Oldsmobile are not nearly as common in model form as some of the better-known coupes and convertibles.

I recently added this one after finding it in one of Buz’s fabulous Friday sales, and it was a welcome pickup. As one of the few woodies I did not already have, it filled a gap in the collection while adding another distinctive postwar American car to the shelf. Pieces like this are a good reminder that some of the most satisfying finds are not always the most famous models, but the ones that round out a collection in just the right way.

The 1922 Duesenberg Model A remains an important car because it represents the beginning of one of America’s most revered luxury and performance marques. Long before the later supercharged Duesenbergs became icons of the Classic Era, the Model A established the company’s reputation for advanced engineering, quality craftsmanship, and serious performance. It was an ambitious automobile for its time, and that early significance continues to make it appealing to historians and enthusiasts alike.

235751
235752

That lasting interest is part of what made it a fitting choice for Minimarque’s 1996 Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival Car of the Year. Issued as model US52A, the scale replica gave collectors a chance to add an early Duesenberg to their shelves in limited-production form. With only 250 pieces produced, it remains a nice example of the kind of commemorative model that connects automobilia collectors with the broader history of the marque.

235754

This particular example is #21/250. For collectors of Duesenberg memorabilia, Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival pieces, or limited-run models, it is a reminder that some of the most interesting tributes are not always to the most famous cars, but to the foundational ones that helped build the legend. I'll admit, a little of that thinking rubbed off on me after seeing the curated @stewil collection.
