The Diecast Zone Forums - Recent Topics https://diecast.org/community/ Diecast Zone Discussion Board en-US Mon, 06 Apr 2026 12:07:37 +0000 wpForo 60 A little Brooklin!!! https://diecast.org/community/1_64/a-little-brooklin/ Mon, 06 Apr 2026 01:27:32 +0000 Fiat came out with an electric 500 in 2020.  With Brooklin's close connection with the Italians (see their larger Fiats and Alfa Romeos), it seems they made a promotional model for the release of the real one.  I got wind of it via a Facebook post more than a year ago but did not see a single one for sale anywhere.  Now, it seems Brooklin had one left in the back of the factory, so I picked it up recently from their eBay outlet store!  #1 of 275.     And I still do not see any for sale anywhere...  maybe people are hoarding them?  hahaha  In any case, why did I even buy this?   I don't collect, 1/64, or Fiats or electric cars or promo cars...   But I had to have it.

I am happy to have a 1/25 Liberty Classics diecast of the 4-door convertible. Here the actual 1:1 sedan is obviously the favorite ride of actress and robot Claudette Colbert, who is apparently screwing her robot head back on to inform us all of the benefits of this Dodge automobile !

However, I then went back to my xls list to see what Matrices I had missed.  I still lack several; they are not available on the 'Bay or are all in Italia at $$$...  This one was 'make an offer' so I did.  Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 GS Figoni Coupe 1933, a beautiful French curvy Italian coupe! How did I miss then when it came out?  In any case I put in an offer equal to my last new Matrix price and it was accepted.  The double win is that it was being sold by a non-profit Museum, so they keep the proceeds! The National Museum of Transportation is in St. Louis - check it out if you are in the area.

The black and white paint job is very Bugatti-esque but it works well on this style Coupe.  This article calls it one of a kind and showed it on display at Sydney Harbour! Same license plate as well!

It's been restored for a while at Villa D'Este 2012  - https://www.madle.org/evilla12c.htm  Check out the rear view at this link.  I checked out the 1:43 Matrix to make sure it has that V-crease in the back - it does!

 

 

 

]]> Karl Schnelle https://diecast.org/community/1_43/another-figoni-a-double-win/ One more Vietnam Era memory.... https://diecast.org/community/modeling/one-more-vietnam-era-memory-pic/ Sun, 05 Apr 2026 14:27:55 +0000     One day while wandering around Khorat RTAFB in 1969 waiting for assignment, I saw another of what I thought was a relic, an F-101 "Voodoo".  This was the second aircraft in the vaunted Century Series of supersonic fighters (1957) after the F-100 Super Sabre. In its day, it was a record breaking high speed interceptor capable of Mach 1.8. In practice, it turned out to be be a lousy dogfighter and was superseded by the Phantom. I was well acquainted with all the Century series having built Revell models of them as they came out. I always figured the F 101 was mothballed years ago. It turns out it was resurrected as the RF-101A reconnaissance aircraft using its speed and low level capabilities to keep an eye out on the old Ho Chi Minh Trail. It was actually based in another Thai airbase at Udorn so I guess there was a story there. Funny, all the interesting and sometimes crazy stuff I witnessed, I had to wait for the internet to give me a context to all I saw in that theater. It's been a series of "So THAT's what was going on! I get it now!". Anyway, here's another excellent Hobby Master diecast model of the ISR Voodoo variant liveried for Udorn. (I haven't photographed mine yet)
