Here is a model of a 1950's Douglas DC-7 airliner that I got (or rather, was purchased for me) at Chicago's Midway Airport (then the busiest in the world) when my parents were taking our family on a vacation to Miami Beach, Florida to stay at the Desert Inn motel right on the Atlantic Ocean Beach.

I was only about 5 years old or so, but it was astounding to fly so high up in in air and see the tiny people and vehicles of the ground below.

This model I think may be about 10 inches long or so and you can see I had done a repair of the tail some years ago.

It featured a place for a stand underneath or a small hole in the top to display the airplane aloft. Also, the small nubs at the front of the four radial piston engines were to put a clear circular piece of clear plastic to simulate a turning propeller. The dad of a close friend of mine was the personal automobile limo driver for the president of United Airlines.

I considered my late brother to be a true master modeler. He would spend literally months working on a particular car carefully wiring and plumbing the engine compartment, prepping and painting for a smooth, shiny finish, fabricating parts for a more realistic look, and proudly display it. Now, years later I’m supposed to believe that a manufacturer can produce thousands of examples of a model with detail and finish that would take a person weeks to produce just one. Who are they trying to kid? I was taking a close look at some of my favorite models and realized that what I was seeing couldn’t really be explained. Could Elon have produced a molecular reducer, makes sense to me. I’ve included random examples in the way of photos for proof, we cannot let ourselves be fooled any longer!

From the 1940s on, the Batmobile designs almost differed from issue to issue. Some could be really nailed down like the 1950's Batmobile the had the design schematics and specs right on the front. When George Barris built the Batmobile from the 1955 Lincoln Futura, he had less than a month to turn a rusting wreck into his iconic rendition. It turned out to be similar to the Batmobiles of the mid 1960s. DM, like FM, ran into a very expensive brick wall when 4 different entities demanded confiscatory licensing fees to model the Barris car. DM did this comic book version and Johnny Lightning produced a really cool diecast kit which I built, painted and added Barris-like red pinstriping and kitbashed figures for a similar plastic kit.

During 13 years MAR online was being one of the best sources which published many interesting articles. I tried to make my contribution to this project making articles about white metal and obsolete diecast brands. Very sad that website closed so suddenly, many articles haven't been published.

All things in the life have its final. And in many cases there are good things. So in this topic I'd like to remember not only MAR online but its predessor Model Auto Review by Rod Ward and other magazines like Model Collector and Diecast Collector.
