The year the Mustang celebrated its 20th birthday. Hardly the iconic styling that was so exciting in 1964. Interesting also to note that the average Home cost was approaching the $100K price tag.
1984 was the year that Ford added to its new aerodynamic styling. Thunderbird/Cougar were first in 1983, and Tempo/Topaz in 1984. This was also the year I ordered a new Thunderbird Turbo Coupe from the local Ford dealership. 2.3L Turbo, 5-speed, premium sound system, TRX wheels/tires, etc. The following year, I did a few modifications to it, lowered, Konis, Enki wheels, '85 grill painted to match, grayed out lower moldings, window tint. It was a great car, 34mpg highway. It was the most powerful Bird in 1984 with 145 hp, the V8 only having 135 hp. Sticker price was just over $15,600.
Nice looking car but PATHETIC power. 1984 was HORRIBLE year for performance among US auto makers. My "top of the line" 1984 Pontiac Trans Am H.O. (305 V8) pumped out 190 hp (speedo went to 86 mph....LOL!). I'll NEVER forget being BLOWN AWAY in 1987 by a Bonneville SSE. 😣

Beautiful ride, love the rims. However, I fell in love with the '87 - '88 front end treatment. The only car of the '80's I loved.
I recall test driving a new T-Bird turbo 4cyl. coupe back in 1983 I think it was; my brother-in-law wanted a sporty coupe. I was shocked at how gutless it was unless you really tromped on it....personally I hated the car. My brother-in-law felt the same way and bought a new Mustang GT instead; which by comparison went like the wind.
