How refreshing it was to see this 8th gen 1968 Eldorado (1967-1970). This gen personal luxury hardtop is so subdued, refined and elegant... like Cadillacs should be. Built on the E-body chassis shared with the Riviera and Olds Toronado, it shared the front wheel drive transaxle with the Toronado. Styling Chief Bill Mitchell gave the body a bit more crispness and angularity than the other two also to enhance a more elegant look. With its 375 HP 429 V8, it could reach 0-60 in about 8 seconds and the car was praised for its handling. I loved all 3 of GM's personal luxury cars and always hoped for a '66 Toronado as well as that gen Riviera, in 1/24. Thanks to Automodello, at least I have this beautiful Eldorado.

Here are some quick phone-camera snaps of a Matchbox Land Rover series ll vehicle that originally was part of a large model prepared by my Dad's exhibit company of a Land/Range Rover exhibit they had proposed for a 1960's automobile show. I think the scale is around 1/64 or so.

If I were beating around the bush out in the wilderness in 1966 or so, I would want a real one of these to get around in !

I still have my official guide sold at the Chicago Automobile Show of 1968 that I went to with my Dad and our family in early 1968. The "new" and giant lakefront McCormick Place had burnt down in a spectacular fire in 1967, so the show had moved back to the International Amphitheater until the new McCormick Place exhibition hall was rebuilt a few years later. (I think in time for the 1971 show)

I thought I would occasionally post images I took from that brochure, which was nearly the height of the American muscle car era. Here are some notable car industry leaders. Hey, I think I know who some of those guys are !
