@perrone1 Isn't it odd that back in the day of comparatively simple, inexpensive wheels and hubcaps they used "curb feelers" whereas now with the super expensive wheels they are passe?

Exactly!!!

I do love the feature on our XT5 (That is/was on 3 of our Mercedes) where, in reverse, the mirrors tilt downward to allow you to see the curb on either side of the car.

Tony.....it is a great feature in that regard but I find that perspective really restrictive and a tad unsafe for seeing the bigger picture when backing.  I don't like to rely entirely on the back up camera; especially in bad weather.  Or maybe I'm just an old fart, resistant to change from my previous cars.  Yeah, that's probably it.

You're right Jack; even with the backup camera I find myself still looking over both shoulders the way I learned 62 years ago. Amazed

OH! And I HAVE to edit to add: the XT5 has a safety Alert Seat. It was set, as such, when it was delivered. As part of the Driver Awareness Package. As you park, the dash shows forward and reverse hazards on the dash but the seat vibrates on the left side if you are to close to something or the right, whatever is the case. It scared the c**p out of me. I have since switched it to bells and beeps. I thought I got shot in the buttootski!

Getting shot in the buttooski shouldn't ever happen to anyone IMHO; bells & beeps is a good call.  I liken it to how it must feel for that first split second getting the electric chair at Sing Sing.

As I mentioned, the '53 Ford was my first car and I would love to have another one some day.....an 8 out of 10 driver for Sunday cruises.  I recall the 50th Anniversary steering wheel hub emblem, the little black ball on the thin shifter and the sound of that flattie!  Great times out with my girlfriend in our teens.

My Infiniti has the accident avoidance software, which will apply the brakes if it senses you're too close to something...the problem is I can't make ballzy moves because the car slows down when I want it to go faster.

Those Infiniti designers are a bunch of girls.  I can still say that...right?

Not sure if you CAN but you DID. It is in very poor taste. (I have never been more proud of you Jack!!)  Cool

Mine allows the avoidance to be on or off, warning with or without braking. I can set for short, medium or longer distances. I can turn on or off, the lane departure feature. It nudges the steering wheel if you go over the solid line but does not slow the vehicle any. Pretty intuitive; the only thing I had to defeat, so far, is the auto stop/start feature.

It's my understanding that the nannies can be turned off through the screen menus. I'd love to have AEB (automatic emergency braking), but only in town, not on the open road in light traffic. My car is a 2015, just old enough to have none of these save for the backup camera (which I love since I have a small car) and a passenger side mirror camera that Honda used to have (which I also love). Then again, I love the whole car!

I like them both, although my Dad had a 1953 Chevrolet Bel Air and  it is one of the first automobiles I remember.
