Not much to choose between them in side view. The Pontiac side "spear" is interesting but the sculpting of the Chevy's flanks is subtler. Add in its unique rear end styling and it's a clear winner. Chevy for me.

That Impala was great looking then and still looks great. 👀👍

I was never a big fan of either. I think, in '58, my feelings were that both had a touch too much gingerbread styling.
Today, if I were to choose one to own and drive, I'd prefer the Pontiac.
By 1958 I was a Pontiac fanboy. I still am. Pontiac for me.
Retired in Dunedin, Florida.
Impala for me. One of those cases where the lower-priced car actually looks more upscale, to my eye.

Having owned a 58 Impala I am prejudiced. The Pontiac is certainly more rare but I favor the trim on the Chevrolet. Chevrolet.
To me, 1958 was a let down after the 1955 to 1957 Chevrolets and Pontiacs. I have a slight preference for the Chevrolet in 1958 over that Pontiac.
'58 a bad year for GMC styling after the great '57's. I'll go with the Impala please. In '58 I would have bought the T-bird or DeSoto.
This one is about as close to a tie as it gets as I love both designs but as a life long Pontiac fan I give it the nod by a hair. I also love the '55 thru '57 versions of both these cars (less so re the '56 Poncho nose) but that doesn't affect my appreciation for the radical design change in '58. It sure does for the '58 Olds and Buick though!
My, my. I love both...Yes, I do! They are so over-the-top fifties kitsch! I like the slightly less ostentatious Chevy. But who can turn away from rocket-spears, chrome everywhere, and incredible two-toning? I'll take the Pontiac.

Great pics Michael...what's the cloudy liquid in the bottle?I like them both very much and I have 1/18 diecasts autos of each car. My Dad and our family had a 1958 Chevrolet Bel Air sedan (and I had a 1/25 promo) and on one side our neighbor had a a 1958 Pontiac.

That was possibly "Squirt" soda (a lemon-lime drink that is still around), or maybe "50-50", another lemon-lime soda that is still around I believe. The whole day was a fun experience visiting at my Dad's exhibit company !
