Ford. The styling is a little crisper and the Merc's rear haunches are not to my personal liking. Two good cars to compare - You Da MAN John!
Retired in Dunedin, Florida.
Very similar but the side trim on the Ford ties the lines more effectively.
Excellent comparison John. I vote Ford for it's cleaner look but it was close.
Definitely the Ford. I agree with Tony on the Mercs rump.💯
@perrone1 I have the same perspective as Tony and Ed; the Ford has better lines and a much better looking grille and tail end. This Mercury is my least favorite of its decade; the shoulder years are both very nice cars.
I kept trying to find why I liked one over the other and sorry, I just can't decide which one is more appealing to my eyes. So it's a TIE! I do know though what I'd change about both, get rid of that hideous non-color White. If it were the only color each came in, then I'd pass on both!

I voted Ford. It is dressed better. The Mercury looks plain and BTW they are pretty similar to begin with

They looking "pretty similar" was a sore spot with me. I liked it when the '57 through '60 Mercury's were totally different from Ford. But then in '61 Mercury was back to sharing the Ford body and being a near look-a-like copy of each other.

Both are really good-looking cars and in attractive colors, too. Some time back, a 1962 black & white Ford police car was displayed at one of Riverside's local cruise nights.
The rear quarters of the Mercury don't do it for me so it's the Ford for me.
Gents, thanks for your responses!

Ford for me. The Mercury for '62 looks too much like the Ford. We all know the Mercury is just a dressed-up Ford, but prior to 1961-1962 and the years after, Mercury had a distinctive look that warranted the extra cost. You felt that you had taken a step up, with this '62, it didn't look that way, go with the Ford, as it captured the new year's style a bit better.
