LOL, don't get me started on the work force (or lack there of) out there today.  Anytime you're in a store or restaurant, looking at the employees, it's easy to wonder if your at the circus.  Every imaginable color of hair, nose rings, multiple ear rings and hula-hoop holes in them, tattoos on their bodies from head to toe (and all points in between).  And don't dare ask a question or try to communicate in any fashion, as they are tuned out, will give you a dazed look and have no idea how to respond.  Simply put, the current generation is scary.

Basic arithmetic

Yup.  And they don't know it.  Even worse, schools no longer teach it.

I’m proud to say that I’m a product of a Catholic school education (thru high school)…I have a solid educational foundation that unfortunately is missing from today’s schools.

Myself and two son are also successful (two CG officers and a physics teacher) Catholic school products and the Catholic and Christian schools are thriving, at least in SE Virginia and eastern Massachusetts.  Some students are thriving in public schools, Grassfield High in Chesapeake VA is highly rated.  Education begins at home. 🥺

I was packed-off to an expensive R.C. boarding school run by brothers of the De La Salle order and when the old boys get together, we universally agree that the actual academic instruction was lacking - even though diplomats and the like are the result.  However, the best education I had was my parents insisting that we - siblings and I - all had to work during the summer holidays.  Sent out of the bourgeois home to knock on factory doors asking for work was lesson #1.  Lesson #2 was taking the week's wages - no tax paid due to age - to the record stores and buying U.S. import rock'n'roll and the sense of personal choice and agency that it all entailed.

Whilst I have no issue with faith; I firmly believe that hard work and reward are a better discipline.

I have reviewed this thread and am now convinced we are at the edge of The Abyss.  Time to get some bucks together and buy a 1-way ticket on that time machine we talk about here occasionally.....dial set at 1955.

"Model cars folks....model cars....right here! Model cars for sale cheap...get your Brooklins, Durhams, Goldvargs and many other brands...they're going fast!"

NOTE:  I'm just kidding I hope you realize!  The prices aren't that cheap. Wink

I love it Jack.  And, I'm in for that time machine ride.  But ONLY if it's a "one way" trip.

@georgeschire I know it wasn't a perfect time in history, there were of course significant issues....but I would trade this mess for it in a flash!  The first thing I would do is go buy a new Chevy Bel-Air HT in coral and dark grey.  Yeah baby!!

OR, failing that one....

I so agree with you about the times.  The world has always had issues, but none like today.  It's hard to fathom it can get worse, but with those past decades issues, we didn't think it could get worse, and we've been proven wrong.  So we have to assume that we are indeed doomed.

I think your coral / dark grey plan is excellent! Perhaps with such uplifting style, and the Platters on the radio, people had a happier outlook. At least collecting the models and playing the records is a step in the right direction.

That's the problem today.  We give losers acknowledgement and ribbons because we don't want them to feel bad.  In my world, you work hard and earn your rewards and achieve your goals.  But not in todays world.  It's upside down man!
