A hundred years ago in 1924 this little Opel 4 PS (4hp) was introduced by Opel in Germany. It was also known as the Opel Laubfrosch ("treefrog"). It was produced untill 1931 (119.484 total). Its boattail shape looks like the Citroën Type C.
Hachette made this little car correctly in the green colour like almost all the Opel cars produced in the early years. Green in Germany was a lucky colour in those days. Hachette also made the Citroën 5hp Torpedo type C (1922-1926). I pictured them both to see the differences. Too bad the type C isn't in grapefruit yellow (the cars nickname was 'little lemon') which was the more common colour for this type, but the greenish blue version is nice.
To complete the picture and compare sizes I have put a 1919 Citroën type A 10HP and the 1925 Ford model T in the garage as well. I hope Hachette will continue these series with some more little cars from the early days.
There is also a 1:24 green Laubfrosch version made by Whitebox. Main difference are the green coloured wheel discs, which I never saw on photos of original cars.

great post thanks. I have had both of these and the 1919 Citroën type A 10HP for around 12 months or so and yes the detail is excellent. There were a couple of 1930s Hachette et al Opel models for sale around the same time, that again looked excellent, but they were only for sale from one dealer that I could find and I have not seen them again. I think from Germany. Postage was too high for me. I actually just checked Opel 1/24 on ebay before posting and no sign of them but there do appear to be quite a few new more recent years Opels available

what a fabulous resource, thank you. I believe the 2 I'm referring to were the Opel Admiral and Opel Super 6 Cabrio Hebmüller. They are both must gets! And I love the 1939 Kapitan Cabrio!

There are a few others I will add over time as well. I actually already have the 1968 GT 1900, the 1951 and 1954 Kapitans, the Blitz 1.75 t and the rocket powered Rak 2, https://www.secret-classics.com/en/90-years-of-opel-rak-2/

opels

Some real interesting and very unique car designs there, thanks again!

@Geoff,

Still looking for the Hebmüller. But the Blitz you displayed is also a must get !  I only have 3 Opel models , one of them is the big 1938 Admiral and a small 1951 Olympia. Looks very small compared to the Admiral. So I put the 1938 Audi 920 (CMC) to make some extra pics.

First time I have seen that RAK compared to the other models of Opel. Didn't know it was that long. Thanks for the interesting link. 😀

wow that Admiral is nice, great pics. The CMC Audi comparison is really interesting, thanks. When I received the Rak 2 I thought it was 1/18 but then after checking out its full history and a number of photos it's clear it is a very large vehicle and its 1/24 representation here is correct.

The Blitz truck is an excellent model and outstanding value for money. Opening doors, 3D dash, and while no engine is disappointing for around $US30 I'm not really complaining. Note how tight the door shut lines are. Worth considering for anyone looking to add a nice 50s 1/24 truck.
