How the Auctions Work

Everything you need to buy or sell on the Diecast Zone auctions: how to bid, how to pay, and how to become a seller and list your models.

Selling: How to Become a Seller

  1. Register on the Forums if you have not already: Register here. Registering takes you to the Forums, and you will receive an email with a link to set your password. Once your password is set, come back here: click Auctions in the top menu, then Auction Instructions.
  2. Log in. Already a member? Log in here and you will be brought straight back to this page.
  3. Click Apply to Sell below and fill out the short Seller Application.
  4. Watch your inbox. You will receive an email as soon as your application is approved, along with a request for the PayPal email address where you want your sale proceeds sent.

Selling: Listing an Auction

  1. Log in, then go to your Seller Dashboard at diecast.org/wp-admin.
  2. Click Products, then Add New.
  3. Enter the model’s name and a full description, including the manufacturer, scale, condition and whether the box is included.
  4. Under Product data, choose Simple Auction, then set:
    • Condition
    • Starting price (the opening bid)
    • Bid increment (for example $1, $5 or $10)
    • Start and end dates (the auction length)
    • Reserve price (optional: the lowest price you will accept; bidders do not see it)
    • Buy It Now price (optional)
  5. Set your shipping charge. Still under Product data, click the Shipping tab. Under Shipping Rules, click Insert row, enter US as the Country Code and your shipping charge as the Item Cost (for example 12.00). The buyer pays this at checkout and it is paid to you. Auctions are currently open to buyers in the United States only.
  6. Auto-relist is already on. On the Auction Relist Settings tab, new auctions are set to go back up automatically for 10 days if they end with no bids or below your reserve. Use the 7 days, 10 days or 14 days buttons to change the length, or set Extend or Relist auction? to None to turn it off. More about relisting.
  7. Add a main product image and gallery photos. Clear photos from several angles sell better.
  8. Click Submit for Review. New sellers’ first listings are checked before they go live, usually within a day. Established sellers’ listings go live right away.

Selling: After the Sale

  • You will receive an email when your item sells and the buyer has paid.
  • Ship within 48 hours. The shipping charge the buyer paid goes to you.
  • Your 90% share is sent to your PayPal account automatically.

Selling: Relisting an Auction That Didn’t Sell

If your auction ends with no bids, or the bidding stays below your reserve, you can put it back up in seconds. The photos, description, starting price and shipping all stay the same, and the old bids are cleared.

Automatic relisting (set it once)

  1. Go to Products and click the auction’s name.
  2. Under Product data, click the Auction Relist Settings tab.
  3. Set Extend or Relist auction? to Relist and tick Relist if fail?
  4. Leave the wait time at 60 (minutes). For the relist length, click 7 days, 10 days or 14 days.
  5. Click Update.

New auctions already have this turned on. It keeps relisting until the item sells, so turn it off (set it to None) if you want to stop. Leave Relist if not paid? and Relist always? unticked.

One-click relisting

Go to Products. Under any ended auction that didn’t sell, click the gold Relist for 10 days link. You’ll also see a Relist button at the top of that auction’s edit page. It goes live again right away.

Want a lower starting price first? Open the auction, change the Starting price (and the reserve, if you set one), click Update, then click the Relist button.

Buying: How to Bid

Anyone registered on the Forums can bid. Auctions are currently open to buyers in the United States only.

  • Not registered? Register here. This takes you to the Forums, and you will receive an email with a link to set your password. Once your password is set, click Auctions in the top menu to come back.
  • Already registered? Log in here and you will be brought straight back to the Auctions.
  1. On the Auctions page, click the item you want.
  2. Enter the most you are willing to pay in the bid box and click Bid. You do not have to keep coming back: the site bids for you automatically, raising your bid one increment at a time only as much as needed to keep you in the lead, up to your maximum. Other bidders never see your maximum.
  3. If someone else’s maximum beats yours, we will email you so you can bid again.
  4. Some items have a Buy It Now price. Clicking it buys the item immediately at that price.

Buying: Winning and Paying

  1. If you win, you will receive an email with a link to complete your purchase.
  2. Click the link, then go to your cart (top right of the page) and click Checkout.
  3. Enter your billing and shipping address. The seller’s shipping charge is added at checkout.
  4. Pay by credit or debit card, or with PayPal.
  5. You will see your order details and receive a confirmation email.

Important Notes for Buyers

  • You are buying directly from the seller, not from the club or the site.
  • Items usually ship within 48 hours of payment.
  • The seller is shown on every auction, so you can direct questions about an item to them.
