    Review

Forget the cold dreary days of winter, spring is in the air! At least it is as you gaze upon this diecast and all of its miniature gear. Who needed Sport Ute’s back in the mid-40’s when this Suburban would carry all? Outfitted for camping and fishing, you get the whole nine yards. There’s a roof rack with leather straps and photoetched fasteners to secure the canoe. Internally, the canoe displays unexpected detail. The FM shot the works and also included two oars, a picnic basket with an opening lid, leather carrying strap and what I believe to be a bag of ice inside. Wasn’t it thoughtful of them to include this bottle of wine? (My review, my assumption) There are two sleeping bags, a lantern with extraordinary detail and wire carry handle and fishing gear. The tackle box is whimsically complete with boning knife, plugs, bobbers and hooks but the real treat is the rod and reel. The metal rod is fully complete with eyelets that could be strung if fine enough line could be found. Ok, ok, to the vehicle. It’s all here. Working suspension with operating drive train, windows that go up and down within the door frame track and a thoroughly modern paint job as fluid as they come. The photoetched wiper, metal antenna and flexible outside mirrors lend a touch of realism while the engine wiring and heater hose treatment grabs your technical attention. Even the cold air vent on the cowl works! Inside we have ignition keys, folding passenger seat to aid entry to the cavernous rear. Under that seat is a perfectly detailed jack. There is even a genuine wood cover for the jack compartment that matches the actual wood rear flooring. The rear doors swing wide but are treated to a wire limiting system. Congratulations FM, you thought of everything. Well except maybe bait and the Spam sandwiches! (02/19/2000)
