This is the 1962 Chevrolet Corvair Super Spider XP-785 Concept Red in 1:43 scale by Matrix. The 1962 Chevrolet Corvair Super Spyder (XP-785) was a distinctive concept car that showcased Chevrolet’s innovative approach to design and performance during the early 1960s. Based on a 1962 Corvair convertible body, the XP-785 featured a shortened wheelbase of 93 inches—15 inches less than the standard model—achieved by removing a section between the doors and rear wheel arches, resulting in a more compact and sporty profile. Under the hood, it was equipped with a turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-six engine, delivering 150 horsepower at 4,400 rpm, paired with a 4-speed manual transmission, embodying Chevrolet’s commitment to performance. The design was the brainchild of Larry Shinoda, who later gained fame for his work on the Corvette Sting Ray and the Ford Mustang Boss 302. The Corvair Super Spyder’s combination of a unique shortened chassis, turbocharged rear-engine layout, and Shinoda’s visionary design set it apart from its contemporaries, reflecting a bold departure from traditional American automotive design of the era.Excellent quality and finish. Beautifully crafted and exquisitely detailed. Models are handpainted, decorated and assembled. Beautiful detail and accuracy of shape and scale. Photoetched parts, die-cutting, tampo printing and waterslide decals are also used. Each modelcomes with its own acrylic display case.
