McNish, a fiercely competitive Scottish driver, was making his Le Mans debut and would go on to become an endurance racing legend. Aiello, a versatile French driver, brought immense skill from touring and sports car racing, while Ortelli, a Monaco-born talent, added precision and consistency. The 1998 race was iconic as it marked Porsche’s return to the top of the podium, following a fierce battle with Toyota and Mercedes.
