Amon, the highly skilled New Zealand driver known for his fearless style, piloted the 612P — a purpose‑built Ferrari prototype powered by a 6.2‑liter V12. Against the dominant McLarens of Bruce McLaren and Denny Hulme, Amon’s third place was a major achievement, particularly because Ferrari’s program was lightly supported and beset by reliability issues. The 612’s smooth, wingless body and high‑revving V12 made it a standout car in the brutal Group 7 series. This podium highlighted Ferrari’s determination to challenge the established Can‑Am powers, even with limited factory backing.Excellent quality and finish.
