Elford was especially respected for his fearless commitment and technical feedback, while Ahrens brought speed and consistency to Porsche’s prototype program. What set the 917 LH apart from other race cars was its extreme long-tail aerodynamic bodywork, designed specifically to minimize drag and achieve extraordinary top speeds on Le Mans’ Mulsanne Straight.
