Originally developed for FIA Group B racing, it featured a twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V8 producing around 400 horsepower, allowing it to exceed 190 mph—an astonishing figure for the mid-1980s. What truly set the 288 GTO apart was its blend of lightweight composite construction, race-derived engineering, and explosive turbocharged performance, creating a car that felt far more advanced than its contemporaries.
