I hadn't realized until now that George was the first monkey to experience space travel......shows that it pays to be curious I guess.

@john-barry WOW - S & G late Folk as 1950s Rock 'n' Roll!

@jack-dodds Jack, living in foreign countries has complications. This is perhaps the most commonly used word in U.K. English - certainly among the 'educated classes' and I recently had to explain the distinction between this and the word 'Bourgeoise' ! Quite different; although some might not think so.

George will be in good hands with Slim Pickens riding that rocket.  Nice to see he's dressed in a garb familiar to George to calm the chimp's pre-launch nerves..

one could easily get comfortable with a synopsis such as that Jack......but didn`t Slim get "all blowed up" in his final big rocket adventure?.....and poor George.....not so curious anymore 😑

@john-barry I wasn't there for the explosion but rumors abounded in the studio back lot that it was a dimwitted stuntman who they convinced that to go out in infamy was an awesome career goal.

@jack-dodds...... ALSO......if the plan was to return safely to Earth,why did they furnish C George with a roll-down front window?

@john-barry Gadzooks! you're right again JayBee....good call!  There's no way that window would ever survive re-entry.  There's something sinister afoot here.....!

Great image John. Wasn’t the first monkey in space a rhesus called Miss Able back in 1959?

Curious George made it into space in cartoons which maybe warranted a trophy.

@david-green Frankly David; I think the only credible person with sufficient intellect to answer your Miss Able question would be Jeopardy winner Paul Rouffa.  He might also be able to clarify if she took any cash along with her, as per your claim.
