OK, Long Story Short: One of my favorite AFX slot cars was (is ) my red/white Baja Bronco.
I mistakenly thought that Greenlight's 1969 Rod Hall red/white Baja Bronco was a model of the 1:1 of which the AFX is based. WRONG! The AFX is actually a replica of another famous Baja Bronco, only in gold/white, known as "Big Oly," successfully raced by Parnelli Jones.
275 high-end 1/18 resin versions were done years ago and are impossible to find today - at any price.
To complicate matters further, not only does my 1/18 Greenlight red/white Bronco NOT really match my AFX, it, in reality, doesn't quite match the Rod Hall Bronco either. It's actually a "Rod Hall tribute Bronco." It's a model of a Bronco that never really existed. 😡 😡 😬
So, NOW........ I MUST "fix" this 1/18 tribute Bronco to match the 1:1 Rod Hall Bronco.
Basically, I'll need to remove some trim, the back seat, & the windshield, re-position the front crash bar & roll bars and re-locate the spare. The doors can remain sealed (like the 1:1 ) and I'll probably cut the hood out and make it operational. Locating a 1/18 302 V8 should be easy.
- Did you follow all that? Stay tuned....
Very cool! I have another Bronco that needs to be finished. Since you're gonna be doin' some Bronco mod work, I should send it to you so that it's finally completed! LOL!
"....I should send it to you....."
Oh, you can send it anytime; I have a dedicated shelf full of projects I'll never finish - your Bronco will fit right in. 😏 😏
If you had just taken my advice so many years ago. For "zero money," you could've purchased two or three PLASTIC bodies which could've been easily "chopped up, sectioned, quartered, spliced, and cut...." You're Doug Nash Bronco Buster could've been truly something special and would've looked fan-tas-tic! 😎 😎
- But nooooooooooo.......... you had to do it your way. 🙄 🙄
@chris - Gosh, man! My Bronco funny car project has only been sitting in a box, gathering dust, unfinished, for about 5 years. LOL!
What an excellent tutorial/exposition, Marty, thanks!
"...... my project has only been sitting in a box, gathering dust, unfinished, for about 5 years."
I kid 'ya, but I know you're hung up on a few intricacies, including the fabrication a front hinge robust enough to support that "massive" front clip (...should've used plastic 🙄 🙄) but you'll recall, my 1/18 1956 Ford COE hauler project was delayed by some intricacies I couldn't figure out AND sat, untouched, for almost 10 years!
So.... don't give up hope. One day, you'll get off your ***, like I did, overcome all obstacles and finish the damn thing! 😎 😎 😎
