Almost all collectors are aware of the extreme detail found in CMC and Exoto.  They set the standard and the bar for that regard.  However, others have demonstrated that they have some serious detail "game," as well.  Here are a few from Kyosho, BBR, Danbury Mint, WCPD, Minichamps, and many others.

If you're like me, when non-collector laypeople see my collection, and they refer to it as a "toy car collection," I pull out one of the best examples and show them why these models are NOT toys!  They quickly see, learn, and appreciate the distinction! LOL!

All are excellent examples why these are not Toys Marty.

.....I'm going to argue ONE of these Marty.

I have two 1/16 DM 1955 Chevrolet Bel Airs - their greatest virtue is their weight!    Yes, I know it's VERY OLD tooling, and back in 1993 it was very cool..... but it's a VERY "simplified"  model.

With its crazy dog-leg hinges, so-so engine compartment & trunk area it's hardly anyone's idea of perfection when stacked up against ANY ONE of your OTHER fine-scale-replicas.     IMO, the underside (frame, floors, etc... ) is better executed than anything else.    One day, I'll remove the skirts from mine.

NO WAY MARTY, NO WAY!

@chris - Yes, definitely an old tool.  In its day, I thought the detailing was superb.  I was particularly taken by the fidelity of scale.  Obviously, you weren't as impressed as I was then.

The "big" 1/12 Danbury Mint models were simply outstanding. The 1930 Cadillac Roadster was the ultimate masterpiece for the time. Second to none was the FM 1907 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost with also all the operating features.

They needed a lot of space to be appreciated and I had custom display cases for each of them because they were so marvelous.

The Bauer Exclusive 1934 Mercedes 500K Roadster simply reached another level of accuracy and details in this large scale. No surprise it still command over $3K on the secondary market. But ........ who buys??????

@marty-johnson These 1/16 were toys worth not even to buy. I had the 1953 Cadillac Eldorado for many years and when it felled from a display, I was more concerned to the damage of my tile work.

I was mostly happy because it was one less box to keep in storage.

@nickies  I am watching a 1907 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost in 1:24 scale, which I want to add to my group, and is there a 1:12 of this model, as well, by FM?  Also, which 1907 RR SG do you mean, the silver open SG, or the green closed CG?

I see on eBay the sellers are asking $3,000 but according to this auction result, that number is "ambitious."

Hi Marty,

Could you please identify the model with the turquoise interior?  ERTL GTO maybe? Thanks 👍

Steve

I believe the model you are referring to is the WCPD 1962 Chevy Impala convertible in 1:24 scale.  Brian Dunning financed these models, and the result is that they are easily the equal of any Exoto or CMC model.  Brian really did sweat the details on his short run of Chevy models.
