While immersing myself in my 1:43 model search I completely forgot about the three cars sitting on an antique chest in the front hallway, two of which are 1954 MBz Gull-Wings. One my partner acquired and the other was a gift from a friend. There are others in a cabinet collected by my partner and I will pull them out to see what is there. In the meantime, here are a few quick pics of the cars, the black one being my favorite.
These gull-wings have been released in 1/18 scale by several manufactures over the years. At the top of the food chain are those manufactured by CMC - should you ever desire increased realism & detail. Although I must admit, Bburago may be the only company to issue '54 300 SLs in black. 🤔 🤔 🤔
@chris Ouch, I wasn't paying attention, was I? Fixed.
@gdh I'm not entirely certain I understand your post.... perhaps you're telling me that you're now aware of other 1/18 1954 Mercedes 300SL replicas. 🤔 🤔 🤔 Or that "fixed" implies that you've purchased another, more detailed, model? 🤔 🤔 🤔
- Sorry, I'm not always the sharpest knife in the drawer (if ever 🙄) therefore, please excuse me if I've misinterpreted your comment.
@chris No worries, Chris, you need not apologize. 'Ouch' was in response to being 'spanked' for not paying attention to my post, and 'fixed' was to indicate that I corrected my faux pas by changing the MBz designation to the appropriate one. Thank you for the heads-up.
On another issue, what is the correct name of the model maker? Is it Bburago as I have seen, or just Burago as I have also seen on several internet posts?
@perrone1 Yep, those are superb! My Ricko '52 Mercedes is part of maybe TWO or THREE 1/18 replicas I own which are NOT the BEST examples possible. Name the 1/18 model, and I have the best version produced... except for 2 or 3. 🤔 🤔
One day, I'll either sell my Ricko or purchase a CMC... because "stuff" like this keeps me up nights! 😬 😬 😳
I have the CMC and it is spectacular.
@bob-jackman I hope this doesn’t stray too far off topic, but this very cool post reminds me of a Cox Mercedes W-196 model that I picked at a flea market many years ago. My late brother begged me for it so I gave it to him because I knew if anyone could get it running, he could! (And did). A couple of years ago I saw one like it on my ‘Leave it to Beaver’ series DVD. Thought you might find it interesting. The photo is not of my personal model, it’s long gone unfortunately.
