A problems in building a model car- Bare-Metal turning white? (pics)
Yesterday I was just about finished with a white metal model car kit (a 1:43 Plumbies #37 Horch roadster). So just before final assembly I decided to just lightly overcoat the two-toned paint with a little permanent shine. I left it to dry overnight and this morning here's what I found:

The two pictures were taken under different lighting, but with the same results: the chrome is now white.
I peeled back a bit of the white in a doubled spot to find the chrome was still there underneath.

And I'm sure you're all familiar with Bare-Metal.

I like both these products and have used them before. But never with results like this! Right now, the Horch is undergoing chemical paint remover, and I'm not going to use these same products together on the next attempt. (It's no loss as I had already decided I didn't like the combination of dark grey and dark blue together.)
PS- I posted this on the Lounge and John Kuvakas suggested Forum 18 had fine model builders. I like the photos here and read this one nearly every day! So here it is. Any suggestions?

David, you could try "Tamiya Gloss Coating Varnish "...
it's a fluid which is applied with a soft cloth or a Q-Tip on small parts. I use it for models in 1/43 and 1/24 to protect BMF work and to enhance the shine.
I recently saw it on ebay.com from a Californian seller for 13.99 Dollars.
