In 1957, Jaguar planned to make 25 street legal roadsters from their D-Type race car. 16 completed cars were sold mostly in the US market and of course Steve McQueen got one which he lovingly referred to as the "Green Rat". The other 9 were destroyed in a fire before they were completed. In 2016, Jaguar decided to construct the final 9 to the exact 1957 specs. They were the 1957 XKSS Continuation cars and given successive chassis numbers from the original 16. They sold privately for $1.5 million apiece. The first "continuation" car to sell publicly went for $2 million. This Steve McQueen "Green Rat" now resides in the Petersen Museum.
I just bought this one because it was in BRG. I wasn't aware it was the Steve McQueen model until later.
One of the most beautiful cars Jaguar ever built.
