I was used to seeing C-1 Corvettes around since 1953 and quite frankly, they were getting boring. The neighbor right behind me was a writer and when he sold his book, he treated himself to a brandy new silver split window Sting Ray. He had backed it in to his carport so all I saw was its rear end. At first I thought it was a Flash Gordon style spaceship as I initially thought it was maybe the front of the car. When I realized it was the new Corvette, I ran around the block to see the rest of the car. I was stunned. I had never seen anything so cool looking in my life! Here's an AUTOart model in Riverside Red (unfortunately not in Sebring Silver) with the 360 HP fuel injected 327. It's all I could has asked for in1963... if it was a 1:1.
Rich, my first impression of the 63 coupe was like yours. The vision of that coupe was nothing like I had ever seen before. A friend asked me to take his 63 split window to our local Corvette show a year and a half ago which I was most happy to comply. The car was Sebring Silver with a black interior, aluminum wheels, four speed and factory A/C. During the show, a guy came up to me and said he wanted to buy my car, I told him it wasn't mine. The next day he contacted my friend and bought the car for $145,000. This year the car won best in class for C 2s.
@bob-jackman How come I don't have friends like you have? That must have been a real treat.
Ahh yes, '63 when I turned 10 and the roads were filled with some of the most awesome looking cars a kid like me could fall in love with. Corvette, Riviera, T-Bird and soon to come...Mustang ! It WAS a great time to be a "car nut" and then the years got even better 👍

What excellent images of a stunningly good-looking automobile and model of it. An extremely nice one !
A superb Autoart effort - I really like this one. Thanks for the post! Very cool... 😎 😀
I'm glad that when I sold off my collection I kept the silver blue convertible. 👍
Beautiful model of a very attractive Corvette, likely my favourite. Great images and a nice story, Rich.
I remember as an 11-year-old kid when I saw the 1963 Stingray at the Detroit Auto Show in Cobo Hall in 1963. I couldn't believe that a car could be so beautiful! It was just jaw-dropping!
@marty-johnson Same stunned amazement impression for me as an 11 year old in '63 Marty and I feel just as strongly about it today. The Corvette and the Jaguar XKE are the only cars I can say that about; both in roadster and coupe form.
Marty and Jack, you are both right-on with your comments. 👍 Jeez, all the wonderful model kits that were available so we could feast our eyes on our bedroom model car shelves.
@100ford2003 Not at all - I was a little kid - when they had their show, but someone posted pics before. Wasn't one brown & yellow, or have a rumble seat? 🤔 🤔
