I barely remember myself Chris. I thought one was pink and if I'm not mistaken they had rectangular headlights I believe they were done by George Barris. And I think the interior had shag carpeting. I didn't do any research before I posted that comment. Steve

- Yes, as unfortunately, in my opinion, much of Barris' work was tacky.  However, his 1966 TV show Batmobile was, in my opinion, an exception.

Agreed.

Oh, I see you met George when you were.....what, 26?  😀 😀

IMO, his best work was not the Batmobile, it was this:

GB H Merc

@chris I agree about the Hirohata Merc being his best work Chris!

LOL!  26?  Hardly!  That had to be about 15 years ago!  If I'm right, that would have made me around 59 or 60.  And you're right that the Hirohata Mercury was one of his best projects.  However, George had help from his brother Sam and Frank Sonzogni.  Perhaps they tamed George's more radical instincts like this '49 Ford creation.  Also, it might be unfair of me to be too critical.  Many of George's custom designs might have been dictated to him by his customers.  In my 5 decades in business, I've learned that you often have to give people what they want, even when that conflicts with personal sensibilities.

Here's George Barris riding shotgun in his Batmobile.  This is at the OC Cruise for Cure show.
