Lee was born in Moline, Illinois in 1937 and died in nearby Rock Island in 2020. Inducted into the MOPAR Hall of Fame in 2015, he had a working relationship with MOPAR and Plymouth especially in the 1960s and '70s. Both a skilled driver and innovative mechanic, Chrysler Corporation recognized his value and sponsored him in 1964 working through Learner's Sales & Service of Rock Island. This 1965 Plymouth Belvedere "Haulin' Hemi ll" AWB drag car was the first of a series of famous cars he raced including the "Crazze Cuda" prostocker. In 1971 he opened his own shop, The Car Shop in Moline. This model of the "Haulin' Hemi ll" looks dead on to the archival photos. The Satellite badging and trim are all well reproduced, which begs the question of why? The Satellite package was only offered on the hardtop and convertible (I owned one), not the 2 or 4 door sedans. I guess there's a story there somewhere.

A particularly nice AWB car done really well here. It looks great !
@mikedetorrice This one year body style is my favorite of all the 60s MOPARs. I had a Satellite CV Golden Commando and loved it to death. While I was overseas, my father somehow sold it and gave the money to my wife. I never trusted either of them after that. LOL

Lol, understandable ! I am happy to have a regular 1965 Plymouth mid-size white hardtop of this one. A very cool car.
My ABOSULTE favorite of all the 1/18 AWB releases; I had to have one! Without question, this replica NAILED IT! It has "THE LOOK" that is oh-so-vintage-period-correct!Â
Great history/pics Rich.
PS
It was your pics, years ago, that SOLD me. I bought one immediately! 😎  ...you owe me some money! 😀 😀 😀Â
Thank you, Supercar Collectibles, for taking the financial plunge to bring these much-sought-after models to market! The Lee Smith version was one of the best! I love this model! Â
