New release from Replicarz is the long awaited Chaparral 2J, promised by another model manufacturer but it never came, Replicarz stepped in to produce this resin replica with removable bodywork, not often seen in resin models. Innovation was allowable in CanAm, few restrictions---until this showed up at the track! To maximize ground effects technology a snowmobile engine was added to draw air from underneath the car , along with Lexan skirting along the bottom of the car the cornering was greatly enhanced, as long the the added engine ran. The car was soon banned from racing after objections from competitors, rumor has GM did most of the development and gave it to Jim Hall to finish:
Thank you for explaining the vacuum system. I've seen images of this and not being an automotive sports fan, have not stopped to wonder at its strange shape. With your post, I'm now reminded of the early '80s skirted formula I cars and just checked the date of this to find that it predated the formula I cars by almost a decade.
@marlowe-or-marty Did you paint the wheels or replace them?
@franklemire - I replaced them. I had a set of BBS wheels here that I actually wondered if I'd ever find a use for them. This was the opportunity to spruce up the 2J just a bit.
@marlowe-or-marty Excellent! That is why I have a large box of 'spare' wheels and tires that I have collected over the years - you never know!
