Cost of a modest diecast collection; I retired in 2001 and started collecting diecast as well as a new computer hence a spread sheet.

I used to try to calculate what I've spent on these little cars...

and just felt guilty 'cause boy it sure adds up.
At this stage my collection has gotten so out of hand, I don't even know how much I have and where the hell they are! LOL

Ever buy a model then realize you already own it?

Yes Chris. I n the last year that has happened three times. I attribute it to two things...over 6,000 models and my advanced age.

I keep pretty good records

Started collecting in 2003 - currently have 312 cars 308 in 1:18 and 4 in 1:12.

estimated cost $53,578.00

And I have managed accidentally to buy the same car twice on two occasions.

Doing custom work I have also intentionally bought the same car dozens of times - you don't end up with 46 Cobra Daytona Coupes any other way.

I think I have 14 1/18 Precession Miniatures 1950 Ford four door sedans and 6 2-dr sedans.

Cost? I shudder when I think about it. My custom modifications are at least...

... $1,000 each. I have some that I'm sure are over $1,500. That's must models, paint, and materials. I have 17 of 'em! Then I have a few 1:8 scale Pochers and lots of costly 1:10 and 1:12 scale models. I have the collection insured for $50k but that's my perceived value and not cost.

My wife has been after me to liquidate my collection. She doesn't want to get stuck with it after I move on. I'll probably do that for her but I'm not ready yet. Maybe in about 10 years I might sell 'em!

Even I don't want to try and calculate/appraise your collection.

So a collection of 569 models is modest? That's massive to me!

Mine is a mere 80 or so. Puny by comparison. I limited my collecting to years 1949 through 1960. All are DM & FM 1:24s. I also have ten or so 1:18s. Looking at my beautiful models is an enjoyable escape, especially now amidst the insanity and chaos going on. I imagine that I'm some super-rich guy and my model cars are all 1:1s, in perfect #1 condition and on display in my private museum. Lol.
