Built approximately 3 years prior to WWII, I'd presume this phenomenally beautiful Mercedes-Benz is innocent of any war crimes. I'd want it in my collection.
Having a Federal Firearms License, I also have a pretty large collection of firearms, pistols, revolvers and various type of rifles. But I do not collect war relics.
It is an imposing and great-looking automobile replica and I would be delighted to have this one. Very nice indeed !
...go for it Joop! I'd bet, however, a few were persuaded into service by the Nazis; Rich would know.
Unlike Rio (1/43), I don’t think that Matrix will make a version with swastika flags. What an impressive model.
EMC did a version of the 1940 Mercedes-Benz 770 with the flags, too. I saw on video, a Russian oligarch who'd just bought the Voll und Ruhrbeck Horch 853 - in answer to questions of its Third Reich history - argue that it was the ultimate victory to own 'their' cultural artifacts. I personally take the view that it is history, and to hide some parts of that history, whilst highlighting other parts is to misrepresent history.
....these comments remind me of some I posted a while back. Pics or replicas of WW II German tanks, trucks, planes, etc. are some-how perceived as less treating and connote far less anxiety vs. photos or models of WW II German cars (staff cars ). They ignite profound visceral reactions, for reasons which are not entirely clear; I can only theorize. Miniature historical accuracy is my only concern here; the evils of war and the atrocities committed are all topics for another forum.
Years ago on the CompuServe Forums, a man had posted images of his very well done model battleship "Bismarck", as it looked in the Baltic Sea, on it way to it's famous Atlantic wartime cruise. This included the swastika flag and a large painted swastika symbol on the front deck for air identification purposes.
CompuServe was sued for allowing this symbol, but they pointed out they were a worldwide internet service and they could NEVER hope to allow for every regional restriction around the earth. I believe they won their case
@marty-johnson .....rendered speechless, turning away from something potentially controversial....no opinion whatsoever? I must immediately consult religious leaders of the highest order, from of all faiths, sects and denominations, this can't be real....can't be happening. 😲 😲 😲 😲
Take note, go forth and spread thee word, for on this night, HELL has frozen over! 😲 😲
Marlowe!! Charades? OK, let me take a stab at it.
"Hear no evil. See no evil. Speak no evil". How'd I do pard??
@mikedetorrice Absurd! I believe even in Germany - where they have strict laws on lauding the Third Reich - they distinguish between historic value and celebration.
Do we know in which country the CompuServe suit was served ( 😀 ) ?
I always maintained that because something is historically accurate, does not mean you're embracing the ideology it represents. The two big hot spots are the American Civil War showing the Stars and Bars and, of course, Nazi regalia/ symbolism with the Swastika being the prime subject. I'm always glad to see reasoned discourse on this topic. I remember years ago while reviewing one of CMC's Horch models that these expensive vehicles were mostly owned by wealthy industrialists and party officials. I mentioned that one roadster was actually owned by Eva Braun and was actually lambasted for mentioning her name. Probably 30 years ago, I was searching all over for a model of the Mercedes-Benz 6X4 G4 staff car and found only a tiny 1/72 Hasegawa plastic kit. Then "Troops of Time" that offers beautiful 54mm scale figures and models from virtually every time period from the BC era to now, offered a G4 with figures and the small picture shown looked pretty good. As it turned out the metal figures were well done and flawlessly painted and historically accurate for Hitler's SS Leibstandarte body guards but the G4 was pretty crude block of resin. I never showed this on the D4C after being excoriated over the mention of Eva Braun, here it is and I hope this doesn't get me thrown off the board. I repeat..."I am not a Nazi!!!"
