GMP's Ford GT40 Mk I Street Version
One of the prettiest diecast GT40's IMHO is the Mk I Street Version GMP made in 1:12 scale. The wire wheels add a great deal to its beauty, but when I got it, I thought it was still a little plain so I added the racing stripes.
When you pop the engine cover, you'll see a small block Ford with four dual-choke Webers and Gurney-Weslake heads and valvecovers.
These were made in a fairly small run, I believe, and you don't see them on the secondary market very often but this is a really nice car that is a little "off the beaten path".
A wonderful model.........
and the silver paint really allows the eye to see body contours to great effect.
It is really a shame that we have not gotten high quality models of the MKI in 1:18 scale.
Me likes that a lot!!! And the stripe really adds 'pop'. Great job!
was there a street version of the Mkl? I remember the MKlll sold as the street version....
Car & Driver trashed it.
Literally or figuretively? It's so beautiful I almost wouldn't care how it drove..lol.
Actually there was one, Rich, tub #1013
Ford built one GT40 Mk I Press car for the street and loaned it to journalists, etc. This is almost an exact copy of that car as it was originally made with Borranis, and in silver. But it didn't have my racing stripes.
This page is from Ronnie Spain's book "GT40 - An Individual History and Race Record"
Thanks, Steve.
What a history! Rob Walker, Willie Green, Jenks and The London Sports Car Centre.
I loved that garage - in The High Street, Edgeware in North London, just fantastic. There was a mechanic in there who built Lotus Elans, in kit form, for 20 quid a throw.
"Twenty quid a throw" ?
What was the guarantee, that the wheels wouldn't fall off until you got into the street ? When I take my Mini into BMW for service, that'll get you about one lug nut removed ! LOL
He could do two a day and reckons he did 200 until he was copped by the Excise boys! After that he had to build them during the evenings in the new owners garages.
