I've been "browsing" new models a lot lately and I've noticed that Welly is coming out with...
... a lot of really nice, well-made models, or at least, they APPEAR to be really nice and well-made. I'm very interested in purchasing a few of them, but my past experiences with Welly have not been overwhelmingly satisfactory (nothing bad, just not particularly impressive).
Do any of you have any experience with Welly models, especially the "NEX" model line? If so, what are your thoughts?
I'm in general agreement. Welly has has not impressed me. I could be mistaken, but I think it was them who came out with a '49 Ford Convertible awhile back. It was actually pretty well done. Most of their recent ones are, in my opinion, child like, with bad shut lines and poor reflectors in the mirrors. I would like to see them step it up several notches, at least to the level of Maisto, which has been coming out with some nice stuff that have good shelf presence. Speaking of Maisto, for the money you can't beat them. They sorta of remind me of Ertl when they first came out for $19.95. I recently purchased two Maistos ($16.95) at BJ's. Just my humble opinion.
Gentlemen, i have the red metallic AM DB9 and it is way above and beyond their previous issues.
Even much better than Maisto and approaching UT and/or Autoart. I wish i could post pics. The model i have has perfect paint, nicely scaled shutlines and when i first saw it at the hobby shop i bought it without hesitation. And this was almost 2 years ago. Check them out on Google. If i can find out how to post pics from my phone, i will. NEX models aren't your fathers Wellys!
I just bought a Mercedes GL & a Land Rover at Rite Aid for $10 ea. super price
Very well done good shut lines etc. I have several of their latest cars all are very up scale and well proportioned. These are better than Maisto and they are the only 1/24th coming out at present.
Their 1953 Ford is one of the best 1/18th models that has been done at anywhere near it's very reasonable price/detail point. Very well done and one would have expected it to be priced much higher than it was on release.
Steve, that's one of the very models I've had my eyes on (except in silver)...
... Based only on the photos that I've been viewing online, I would agree that the NEX models are a huge step above the previous line, but I don't necessarily think that all of the previous releases were inferior. Although their '82 Corvettes are somewhat lacking in detail and build quality, I think they actually got the general shape of the car closer to the prototype than AutoArt. Unfortunately, though, they really missed the mark on the shape of the hood.
Note to self: Visit Rite Aid's toy aisle!
Mike, I don't think I've actually seen that one yet, but thanks for the "heads up!"...
... I'll try to remember to look for it!
Alan, I'm not a fan of the '82 Vette so i don't have one. I'll try to get some pics. You don't have a hobbyshop nearby that might stock them?
(PICS) Alan, here's Welly's 1/18 1953 Ford also their 1964 Mustang. Two of their best models. Not...
...super detailed and a little weak in some areas. Doors are dog-legs but these models scale out correctly and are full function (everything opens). Also, they can be enhanced to look better. The 1953 Sunliner is sold in top up or down configurations while the Mustang is available in coupe & convertible form (no up-top though).

Steve, there's a Hobbytown store about 20 miles from me, but I haven't known them...
... to stock Welly models in the past. The only brand of diecast model I've ever seen there is Greenlight (in 1/18 scale, anyway).
Chris, those both look very nice! I especially like the '53! Thanks for the pictures!
I've bought quite a few of their Euro models over the past few years...actually bought 2 this year as well (have only bought 3 new models in 2016).
I've been pretty impressed with them. I think they're quite a few steps up from Maisto/Bburago's older stuff. UT is a great comparison. All mine below are NEX level cars.
The DB9 is excellent. Minichamps & Motormax made the original DB9, but Welly is the only one that makes the facelifted car. (I did slightly lower the suspension)
