In my opinion the 327 cid. It was powerful, had good torque and didn't weigh too much. My choice for the same reason many claim the Boss 302 was a better handling car than the Boss 429, which had a lot of weight over the front axle.

For me it's the 327. Rev like mad without blowing up.

Compact and light weight for easy engine swaps. Great power.

1970 LT-1 360 HP 350 cu. in. Lightweight, more than 1 horse per cu. in.

reliable, easy to service, easy to find parts, high revving, room for more
performance upgrades, I'd rather be saying LS6 454, OR L88, or somthing like
that, but the venerable 350 especially putting out the power it does in the LT-1
version is all things to all uses, needs, and professions. Good for straight line
drags, trans am, or road course racing, even more.

I'm not a Chevy guy but

I have 2 327Q models (230hp) in my 1969 Chris Craft, both were rebuilt so they probably have a bit more HP. They seem bulletproof and rev up like champs!

Overall, I'd likely generally say the

Chevrolet small block in sizes up to 350 cid.

But my own personal favorite is the Chevrolet 454 (LS-4) and especially in LS-6 and the fabled LS-7 configurations.

Chevy engines.

Other than the 262 and 307 they are all pretty good. I have a Silverado 4X4 pickup with the first Vortec 350, rated at only 255HP, It will do zero to sixty in eight seconds, cruise 90 @ 2500 RPM, never shifts down even in a trip to the rockies. The computer shuts it down at 99 mph and it's not even beginning to work at that speed.

Charlie.....I agree whole heartedly on your choice. Back in the 70's I had a Chris

Runabout circa 1960. It came with a 283 and through my stupidity at the time I didn't drain the block for the winter. Needless to say cracked block. BUT I did replace it with a 327 300 hp Vette engine and all I had to do to modify it was change to water jackets and a deeper oil pan and pump assembly. That was and still is one awesome running boat. The guy I sold it to so many, many years ago still has it and has only had to restore the finish on the mahogany hull.

Mine is the 283................you could pump it to a 301...and pound for pound at the time and the right gears, it was a lion killer; and yes, she could kill a big hemi...............in a light weight car. Like the Buick design, that short stoke with the proper cam gives you lift off in the 50 yard dash.....................

Oh, my dear, I am thinking back to my track days as a runner....never mind.
