This was the final upgrade to the 917 series of Can-Am. A new streamlined body and chassis and a 5.4 liter, twin turbo V12 that could be dialed in for 1100 to 1500 bhp. Performance included a 0-200 mph in 13.4 seconds with a 240 mph top end. The Porsches including the 917/10 had dominated the prior year but just before the '74 season, Can-Am changed the rules in such a way as to eliminate all the Porsches from competing. The car hung around the States for a while to set performance records and then went back to Porsche. It's changed hands a few times and at one point was purchased by Jerry Seinfeld for $4.4 mil and sold again in 2016 for a mere $3 mil. It may have been the greatest race car that never got to race.
This is the other rolling chassis pair I picked up went they were being dumped The set was actually cheaper than what the single model had sold for. They make great displays if you got the room (and don't have to pay a kings ransom for them). Anyway, enjoy the details.
I agree that this is one of the most finely detailed cars you can find and I was also able to pick up mine at a relatively inexpensive price.
I did find however that like a lot of 'active' suspension models the body of this car sat up too high so I lowered mine to put it more in line with the race photos I had seen
