Or I should say, workbench.
As most of us know, ACME has been producing a comprehensive lineup of A/FX 1965 Ford Mustangs. So far, they have produced 7 of the 15 factory-sponsored cars. Missing and perhaps still to be done are Len Richter, Bill Ireland, Tommy Grove, Bob Hamilton, Clester Andrews, Darrel Droke, Ed Skelton, and Dick Brannan. I'm particularly interested in the Dick Brannan car as he was the driver Ford leaned on most for testing and experimentation.
Dick Brannan had two cars that are of the most significant interest to me. There was the "Goldfinger" car, which was the A/FX class car. The other was the first Ford altered wheelbase car known as "Bronco." Actually, three cars because Brannon also had a longnose Mustang, but I seriously doubt ACME would make the investment in producing those very unique racecars even though the Ford Factory produced eight of them.
The A/FX would be the easiest to do because all it would require is a repaint and creating Dick Brannan livery decals from an existing A/FX Ford Mustang ACME already produces. The altered wheelbase car would require breaking out and dusting off the Dremel. Now, there is a certain "Professor" of diecast modification who would probably say to me, "Marlowe! What the heck are you doin', man? Don't you have an unfinished Doug Nash Bronco Buster
to complete first?" And I would sheepishly admit that after 4 or 5 years of it sitting in a box, unfinished, Professor Moroni would have a strong point. However, I really do want either that Dick Brannan Goldfinger (a weekend of work, tops) or the Dick Brannan Bronco (way more than a weekend) in my collection!
In the meantime, I've sent an email to ACME asking, once again, if there are any plans for either of the Dick Brannan Mustangs. An earlier query from a couple of years ago yielded the response, "Not at this time." However, things change. I heard a similar response to the 1965 Plymouth AWB cars, and after I completed my Butch Leal car, Supercar Collectibles announced a full suite of the factory 1965 MOPARs. DOH!
I guess I did a Photoshop prototype using the Dyno Don car to visualize what the Bronco Mustang might look like. The front valance underneath the bumper would be a bit of a challenge to duplicate. However, not overwhelmingly so.
"Marlowe! What the heck are you doin', man? Don't you have an unfinished Doug Nash Bronco Buster
to complete first?"
Marty! What the hell are 'ya do'n man!? I KNOW you have an unfinished Doug Nash Bronco Buster to complete FIRST! 😯 😳 😮
On the other hand, YOU wouldn't be the first enthusiast to ever delay a project while completing "a few" others, so I'll cut you some (not much ) slack. Afterall, I took a 9-year break from my '56 C.O.E. hauler project, so.... 🙄 😯 🙄
Since I just acquired the best 1/18 1963 Aston Martin DB5 - "Goldfinger" replica available (I posted a thread featuring this Autoart about week ago ) I naturally then, STRONGLY encourage you to Go for the Gold! 😎 😎 😎
- AND THEN FINISH THE BRONCO BUSTER!! 😡 😡 😠
That Don Nicholson altered wheelbase 'Stang is dynamite!!
@perrone1 ...agreed, but that's more work. "Baby steps" I think, are more in order here....
MARTY'S 2025 HOBBY PUNCH CARD:
1) Goldfinger-'Stang.
2) Bust out the Dremel.
3) Bronco-'Stang.
4) Then (FINALLY! ) AWB Bronco Buster.
5) Enjoy the fruits of your labors. 😎 😎 😎
