so sorry Dennis..bare metal foil..a very thin adhesive backed paper that comes in different finishes. You cut what you need and peel it from the backing and apply to the surface and burnish it down with a soft cloth or q-tip. The excess is easily trimmed with an x-acto blade. I've been using it to trim window frames on models for years. Available at hobby shops and I'm sure thru mail order. And there are various paints available.

Steve, Dennis....here's what I've got. BMF would NEVER work for this. I suspect CMC painted.....

....their "natural" wire rims instead of "acid-blacking" or "black-soaking" (model RR's use a black solution to black-en ANY shinny metal, but once applied it's irreversible).

So..... if you determine your rims are NOT painted then we'll discuss your options shortly. If, however, your rims ARE painted then you'll need to strip the paint.

The easiest way to do this is to soak them (and this may take a few days) in FRESH (new) automotive brake fluid (any type). Let them soak for days while periodically brushing them (LIGHTLY!) with a soft used toothbrush.

If your rims are NOT painted then you have only two options:

1) Paint them BRIGHT silver....but even the BEST "chrome" paint (very shinny silver) in the skillful hands of the best painter in the world will leave you with rims that will look painted. Good but not great. You will most likely be disappointed but you will have silver rims for $5.00

2) Simply spend REAL money and buy a model with the rims YOU WANT, swap rims on each model, then sell off the unwanted model with your old unwanted black rims. In this way you can re-coup some (possibly all..??) of your money.

Good luck!

NOTE: I ASSUME THAT WHEN YOU SAY CHROME... YOU REALLY MEAN SHINNY SILVER. IF YOU WANT CHROME (not silver) THEN YOUR ONLY OPTION IS #2. YOU CANNOT CHROME PLATE AT HOME. There's only one thing that amateur auto restorers use at home to chrome plate and it works great but it's costly and WILL NOT WORK ON SMALL DETAIL LIKE 1/18 WIRE RIMS.

DENNIS RIGHT HERE HE IS THE BEST http://www.chrometechusa.com/

Just send him your wheels w/o tires. He did these for me years ago. I purchased three sets from Fine Art Models when they were just starting up. They were hand laced 72 spoke English type wheels made with brass wire.

Chrome Tech chromed them. Still look awesome today. I still have one unused set. I intended to re-wheel my 007 Bond. But those wheels are too involved.

PS: I had taken the E appart to add a bunch of detailing.

(PIC) Dennis, rather than ruin a set of CMC wheels, contact AUTOart and ask them if they could supply you with five wheels (remember the spare) from their version of the Atlantic.

This link gives a very good pic of the wheels. http://www.autoartmodels.com/en/product/ProductGallery.do?productId=2102
