This 1969 Corvette Manta Ray (derived from the Mako Shark ll) just blew me away when I first saw it. It took all the C3 design cues to the next level. Bill Mitchell with Larry Shinoda and his GM Design Staff were responsible for this and all the beautiful designs of that era. It was powered by the aluminum block 435 HP 427 cid LT-1 engine that was developed for the Can-Am circuit. Motor Trend rightly called it "Bill Mitchell's Extreme Shark". The front dam was integrated into the front clip with all lights, turn signals and all, built as pop-ups. Also popping up were two brake actuated air brakes like an aircraft would have:
It was a pure Dream Car with all its advanced features fully operational in the tradition of the LeSabre, the Firebirds and the first Corvette.
Great images of this exceptionally cool Chevrolet ! This one is definitely a true dream-car and the replica looks wonderful.
I also have this model.
Beautifully done, but I always liked the Mako Shark II better.
The Manta Ray was a little too much for my taste.
It's gorgeous! I don't collect concept cars (as a rule ) but if I did - this one would be a must. 😎 😎 😎
The model looks nice.
