I just realized that of the 3 generations of Barracudas, I don't have single stock model. The first generation that involved mounting a greenhouse on a Valiant, I thought came out better looking than the first gen Charger. My buddy's parents bought him a 1965 Formula S with offered the 273 Commando that had a hotter cam and produced 235 HP. What I loved about the Formula S package is that the exhaust ended in a single boxy external resonator that gave the engine such a cool sound. All I have of the first gen is that crazy "Hemi Under Glass" by H-61 which is true to the stock body lines.
The 2nd gen Barracuda is my favorite. I especially love the lines of the fastback. Again, all I have is the purple ostrich skin with foil graphics finished Check Ostrich 1968 drag car.
This model was a collaboration between ERTL and Supercar Collectibles using H-61 tooling.
Last but not least is the 3rd gen 1971 Hemi 'Cuda with its "Shaker" hood. The body style on this gen I find rather unremarkable with its similarity to the Dodge Challenger. This model is the famous Ramcharger Candymatic drag car which, power-wise was the apex predator of the group. Only 108 hardtops were built along with 20 convertibles making this a pretty rare bird. Model by Acme.
If anyone wants to see more detailed pics of any of these models, let me know
They all look powerful and would be quite impressive as they pulled up next to you at the drag strip ! I have 1/18 diecast examples of the second and third civilian designs from Plymouth but not the first generation.
It's kind of interesting that H61 never made a pure stock 1966 Barracuda model. Due to the stock body configuration of the Hurst Hemi Under Glass model, they already had the necessary body mold. Was it a missed opportunity, or did H61 reason there would not have been enough interest in a pure stock '66 Barracuda?
I only have four Baracudas.
@marty-johnson I would certainly be interested in a stock model. Good point.
