It looks great and it is another beautifully detailed Ertl P-100 diecast ! I have the Yat Ming version of this 1957 Thunderbird, also in red and 1/18 scale. 1:1 Thunderbirds in any size or body style were always good-looking and usually fine performing automobiles.
@perrone1 Thanks, I really didn't want "another red model" - even 20+ years ago, but after I said how great it looks to friend of mine who owned it, he gave it to me.
"Here, take it." He said, "I got three of 'em in an eBay deal, take one, it's yours...." 😉 😀
A nice model. I know that having the hardtop a different color from the body was a popular option in 1956 and 1957 but I always preferred them to match like the 55s.
@chris We all have opinions.. I have owned 1/1 versions of the 55, 56 and 57 and never drove or showed them without the fender skirts. Your green 56 was my favorite color for that year.
@bob-jackman I prefer the single color on the Baby Birds as well Bob. Here are my two fave colors for this car, which IMHO shows how the single color presents better.
Starmist Blue and Thunderbird Bronze.
Many excellent colors to choose from in '57.
@jack-dodds Starmist Blue is my pick for the 57. I am prejudiced because a friend had one in that color and it was an F code car. The car was beautiful but over restored by Amos Minter in Dallas, Texas.
@bob-jackman ...yeah, I keep the skirts in the trunk. One day, I hope to fabricate a an up-top for this one. 😉
@chris An up top would really be cool. Always wondered why no one did this in 1/18 scale as DM did it in 1/24.
@Chris, As the owner of a 1/1 '57 Tbird, I concur with you the Precision 100 is indeed the best model of this car and remarkably accurate. I have never seen a better rendition.
The original 'Starmist blue's been reissued in both red, (yours) and 'Colonial white'. Apparently the original Ertil molds have been sold to "Authentics"? who have recently issued the same model in black with an all red interior. It also has the K/H wire wheels instead of the more standard turbine wheel covers. Also the same 'E' code engine. It's a sharp looking version, Being a fanatic, I bought it.
"Apparently the original Ertl molds have been sold to Authentics?"
Correct.... the original Precision-100 (Ertl ) tooling was acquired by Autoword years ago; they have since released several different liveries & wheel combos - BUT - maintained the original quality, down to the keys in the ignition. 😎 😀
My ONLY real gripe with this otherwise outstanding model is that the beautifully rendered spare was "shaved," allowing for a better trunk-well fit. Thus, removing & displaying the spare is not recommended - as it is on many other 1/18 replicas.
- It's COOL you have 1/18 model(s) to compliment your 1:1 '57 Thunderbird!
@chris On the black one they omitted the key in the ignition
