Oh, oh.......... Just went to FB and saw this. 😲 😲 😲 IF ACME duplicates the version I circled in red, then I don't want it! 😠 😠 😡
I ONLY want this model IF it looks like it did when it raced in the mid-1960's. Those crazy wheel openings AND front axle are a must AND a deal breaker IF they're NOT replicated. "FINGERS CROSSED!" 😬 😬 😬
@chris - That photo, without the wheelwells they way you like it, is the restored version of the car. However, to be sure, I'd call ACME and ask them.
@marty-johnson ....actually, the more I think about, it seems "logical" for ACME to replicate the "restored" version. Why else would they include a picture of it on their FB site? 🤔 🤨 🤔
Let's face it, the "vintage-correct" version, in 1/18 scale, would require somewhat extensive and expensive lower-body re-tooling. 😔 😔
- I purposely did NOT pre-order this model; I don't want to be disappointed. 😔 🙁
@chris - You're right about the retooling. They already have the model tool with the restored version.
I just called and left a message requesting a callback. I'm gonna find out.
@chris - Of course, what's one more project for Moroni Engineering? All you'll need to do is remove the body, cut out the existing wheelwells, move 'em back to the original factory location, file down the lip on the front end of the wheelwells, re-attach, apply putty and bondo, file, sand, file, sand, file, and sand some more, apply primer, correct rough areas with more filing, apply primer again, paint, and voila! How do you say it? EZ Peezy!
@marty-johnson Yes, precisely..... that's "all" I would HAVE to do. 😩 😫 😣 😩 😩
You KNOW what a NUT I am about details. It took me over an HOUR just get the proper front bench seat height on my Pontiac project. 99.9% would've simply glued the seat down - OR - left the incorrect buckets Yat-ming used..... OH NO, NOT ME!
- I wanted the actual seat location guides - that NO ONE will ever see, but MY SEAT is at the proper "1958 height!"
- It's hard being both CRAZY AND LAZY! 😲 😜 😳 🤪 😳 😩
@chris You know, at times I wonder what it would be like inside your brain, but then reality kicks in and I realize I would have to pack a very big lunch and round up a dozen Sherpas to make the trek.
@gdh You're too kind my friend! THIS is what you'd discover:
@chris Ah, okay. Make that two dozen Sherpas and a much bigger lunch.
@chris - I'm nominating you to be in the Model Modification Car Hall of Fame. Here's your jacket. Wear it proudly! You deserve it!
Well.... for those who care - like ME - ACME's "Mr. Tomato" will NOT have those funky wheel cut-outs; they'll, instead, be replicating the "restored" 1:1 version which uses the same AWB 1965 Plymouth body found on all previous 1/18 '65 Ply releases. This is SAD news for me; perhaps others won't care. 😞 😞 😞 😖
@chris - Darn, but I understand ACME's position. The cost would be prohibitive and likely wouldn't yield any ROI.
@chris You definitely sweat the small stuff. God Bless!
