When I opened the envelope revealing this model, I had to sit down.  I was in complete awe!  Of course after catching my breath, I was on the phone to one of Danbury Mint's friendly customer service representative's and the model was ordered.  I couldn't wait for it to arrive and no matter how quickly some of the cars would arrive, they always seemed to take too long.

When the white box did land on my doorstep, I remember dropping everything I was doing to open this baby up.  And oh man, I wasn't disappointed.  The photos in the Brochure, as outstanding as they are, didn't do this car justice.  It is drop-dead gorgeous!  It might just be one of DM's most perfectly replicated cars.

After examining the model as I always do, I was ready to give it a home on my shelf...that's when my excitement turned to complete frustration.  I put each of my 1:24 scale diecast cars in their own plastic display case, but this Cadillac would not fit in the case...it was too long!

Now full disclosure here guys, I'm a stickler that all my cars be in the plastic cases and that all the cases be identical.  I could not have "one car" that had to have it's own different size case.  And I also will not have a model that I can't display, because if I can't display it, I don't want it.  Sadly, I returned the car to Danbury Mint.  So bottom line is, I loved the model, and I'm disappointed that it's not among my other cars, but I guess it just wasn't to be.

I so agree!  I've always been bummed that it didn't fit in one of the 1:24 scale plastic cases.  But I just can't have models that I can't display and all my cases have to be the same or my life is out of sync.  Sad

A beautiful model that I'm proud to have in my collection. I have various display cases that each hold several 1:24 cars. Several of the Cadillacs are a tight fit. So are the models with continental kits!

The FM "Elvis" '55 Cadillac just barely fits in my 1:24 cases.  The "Dagmars" are the issue.  But I did get the car in a case.  With the '60 Cadillac above, it just plain would not fit in the case and allow me to put the cover on it.  As I said, I could certainly have purchased a case from a different supplier, but then I'd have ONE case that was different and not be able to be stacked on my shelves with the rest of my cars.  The only other option was just keep the '60 Caddy in its original box and store it in a cabinet.

Neither of the latter two options are favorable to me.  First I want all the cases to match, and secondly, if I can't display a model, I don't have the model.  I know there are folks that don't (or can't) display their cars for whatever their reasons, and that is their personal decision.  But I'd not have a single model, if I did not have the space and cases to display them.  I can't enjoy them if they are in boxes in a cabinet or closest.  Maybe I'm quirky, but that's me.

George, you are so true on that topic.  I have had mine stored in their boxes which I soon will have all out.  Having 4 kids, every room was taken.  I had some of my cars in the Master bedroom in curio's, which my wife was not a fan of.  The rest had to be stored away for a new day.  Well that new day has come, 2 kids now out of the house and my old office which I turned into my daughters bedroom is now mine again.  So I have moved the curios upstairs to the new office and just purchased 3 shelving units from Ikea, that I am modifying to add more glass shelfs.  By the time I am done with that I will have $700 invested just in these shelf units.  But I hope that in the next few months all my vehicles will be on display if I calculated right.

@georgeschire

I agree 100%. I have all of my models on display and am pretty much out of room. I even have models sitting on top of my display cases which are mounted to the wall.

That's exciting news regarding your forthcoming displaying of your cars.  Maybe when you've completed the job with the shelves you can share some photos.  I always enjoy seeing other collectors collections.

@john-shamblin, nice display and models.

Thanks, George. My model room is kinda junky, but I live alone so nobody complains. My cat loves to dig in my model parts boxes while I'm asleep, and leave me little surprises all around the room.... a tire here, an engine there...

 I'd enjoy seeing your displays when you get them all set up.

@john-shamblin, I like your displays.  And I don't see a junky room at all.  I see a place where you go to be in a world that probably many others don't understand.  Thanks for sharing the video photos.

After these last few years have passed, I'm hoping your models are now all displayed for your enjoyment.  If you can, share some pics with us.  THANKS in advance!

@carsman1958 John, I realise you may have already have your cases, but a suggestion anyway is to see if any of the local plastic fabricators make model wall display cases. I've had all mine custom made to fit wall spaces. And there are no individual sections along each shelf meaning I can fit varying sized models along each shelf.

John S your setup is great, thanks for the pics and video.
