Delahaye wanted to grace the French Pavilion with a road going version of their Type 165 V12 race car. So, of course they sent the chassis to Figoni et Falaschi to body it with signature swooping designed cabriolet. The only problem was the engine wasn't ready so it was sent to the fair sans engine. It was a big hit and the car was quickly purchased being fitted with a used Cadillac engine at a US auction before the Germans took Paris. In 1986, Peter Mullin found the car in a Fresno garage, restored it and united it with the intended Delahaye V12. I read where a second car was built, but I don't know if it still exists. If any car ever embodied Art Deco design, this is it.
The background stories you present with the models are excellent, thank you Rich. This is one model I don't have.. one day...
its a stunner, ordered the day it was announced as our D4C car. Still displayed in the lounge room with an acrylic cover. Used to be the first one people would go to when there were less models in the lounge. There's this beautiful, and expensive, 1/43 blue version (ebay watchlist pics) and I think Lu, and maybe Chav also have blue 1/24 versions. Great pics as always thanks Rich.
Thanks Rich. Have it, love it. I have heard that the windshield on the 1/1 could be cranked down and have wondered what purpose that served other than getting bugs in your face.
A masterpiece on wheels. Great photos, model and story as always Rich. Thank you.💯😊

This HECO model is stunning, love it.
I didn't have the blue version of the D4C car until a month or two ago when Mint Models listed one for a reasonable price and I spotted it early on eBay. I had the black one for several years already. Yes, Lu has them both, black and blue. 10 years ago Jay Olins sold a black and a blue one here as a fundraiser, both were purchased by Joe Maloney (not sure about the spelling), Joe hasn't posted here for years ...
IMO this is one of the best crafted D4C/Automodello models. The picture bellow is from the auction and does not do justice to the beautiful blue color of the model. I have always praised Raffi as a master of finishes and this blue one is not an exception.
