For that day and age, DM did a pretty nice job on the 1940 Ford V8 Deluxe Coupe. Relying solely on impulse buying mail order prospects they issued it in red following FM's lead in how to attract such customers. While the look and stance is quite good and the grill work is excellent, it does suffer from old tech. The huge dog leg hinges on the hood punch two holes in the firewall so the cabin carpet is visible from the engine bay... things you wouldn't tolerate on a $25 Jada model today. Well, all that aside, I still display this model today and look at it as a shape of things to come.

Thanks for the swell photos Rich......does it generally follow that earlier production Mint issues are visually and mechanically inferior to those produced later?.....also,does there still exist a comprehensive listing of all the models along with their respective part numbers?

@john-barry All the Mints have evolved over the year producing better castings, build designs, parts count and greater fidelity. If you are referring to later releases of the same image there were in some cases minor improvements but not in the basic tooling. For example, FM's '41 Lincoln Continental and '35 Auburn were rereleased a few times each with with some face lifts but the bones remained the same.

Back since, at least, 1997, we did not chronicle the parts count of models on the diecast website. They were kept close to the vest by the makers, until much later on. Exoto, the DM 1:12th models, and the like, used to boast, in ads, of the 'parts count' that went into their creations. But, so far I have ever been able to learn, no one has listed models by part count.

John, all of our Car Lists & Reviews did, indeed, include parts numbers of all the makers releases.

Hi John,

I recently discovered that there is an archived parts list, that contains both Danbury and Franklin Mint part numbers, as well as other info. It appears these lists were compiled from the old D4C pages. Here are the links to both:

http://www.coachbuilt.com/bui/f/franklin_mint/franklin_mint.htm

http://www.coachbuilt.com/bui/d/danbury_mint/danbury_mint.htm

It's alphabetical by make, and then in order by date of the car. Very useful to me, and hopefully, you and others too.

Best,

Rich

You're welcome, John, and thank you for creating the Word Docs. I was just leaving the tabs open on my browser indefinitely! =) Very helpful to have them saved!

Best,

Rich

Not necessarily, but I do keep about 20 tabs open on my browser(s), and often reorganize them in order of necessity. And you don't want to know about my unread email inbox(es)... =)

Best,

Rich

Rich, this is a blessing! Do you think all releases are included?

PS: and the answer unfortunately is NO, just checked few of the last released models, like the DM 1948 Chevy Aerosedan and it is not there.

@chav I've also determined that if you do a search for "Phillymint danbury (insert name and year of car)" or substitute "Franklin" or whatever other brand, Philly Mint always places the part number at the bottom of their listings too. They're not always correct (if not the incorrect number, they'll also sometimes add a DM in front of a number, which isn't always accurate, and the letter 'M' after it for some reason), but most of the time, you can use them to search the part number on here on D4C, and find the original info that was published here. I often use this to fill in my catalog info on my eBay listings. Hope the further info helps.

Best,

Rich
