Back in th ‘50’s and ‘60’s companies such as AMT and JoHann did nice replicas and promo models in 1:25 scale. I had a bunch of them but unfortunately none survived save this 1962 Pontiac Tenpest. Before 1962 the plastic bodies warped but in ‘62 a new formula for the plastic was developed and these models have not warped even 60 years later. I remember buying this Tempest in June of 1962. It somehow lasted all these years. I also had a ‘62 Buick Special wagon. Wish that had survived. Even the friction motor on this Tempest works!
I didn't realize the plastic composition had been changed to reduce warping David. It's amazing that you have a 60 year old plastic model from childhood!
I would love to see this Tempest and its Olds F-85 cousin done in 1:43 by Goldvarg some day.

Not to worry David, through the miracles of Ebay you can always relive your past. Check this Ebay number. No guarantees what this will bid to however.

And on your Tempest they even got the Corvair sourced rear mounted automatic gearbox replicated.
That's a beauty, David. My mom had a 61 Olds f85 convertible. Red with a black top and interior. What a cute little car that was I also had a promo of a 62 Buick Special wagon in a rose metallic. Wish I still had it.
I love your friction survivor! I have two that survived, a 1966 Impala SS and a 1967 Cadillac Coupe de Ville. However, the friction mechanisms didn't survive. Upon bringing them home from the store I would immediately remove the four chassis screws and take out the flywheel. How can you push them around on the floor with that thing installed?
Very nice. I used to have a whole bunch of these old friction models. They were well played with. When I moved out, they were packed up and put in the attic. I don't know what happened to them. When my parents sold the house years later-they were already gone. I wish I still had them.
I remember having a '64 Grand Prix, '65 Cadillac Convertible, '64, 65 & 66 Impala Hardtops, '66 Galaxie, '69 Ambassador, '64 & '65 Chevelles and others don't recall.
