The 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300D (W189) pillarless Phaeton was built between 1957 and 1961. It was known as the "Adenauer" for Konrad Adenauer, West Germany's first Chancellor. This particular car is a luxury tourer equivalent to today's S-class or Maybach., but Adenauer also had a stable of saloons, and limousine parade cars filled with amenities like partitions, sun roofs, writing desks, curtains and sirens. More technologically advanced than its W186 predecessor, the 3.0 liter OHC 6 was now fuel injected producing 176 HP.
