A look back at what used to be excellent FM models. They have both suffered from the ravages of "diecast rot" I came across the boxes the other day as I continue to set up my model room. I haven't opened them yet, as I remember that when they were packed, their condition was poor. So, until I do and see what's left of them, I thought I'd share some photos from better days.

At least I'll always have the photos...

At least when you took the photos, these were really nice looking models. Glad you took the photos back then.

Great photos John; thank goodness you took them. These were all the rage back in the day and for GOOD reason, both are terrific. I've never been able to pick a favorite between them!

WOW!  I remember the excitement I experienced when I received both of these models.  I loved the color combinations and they were standouts on my car shelves.  Then one day to my horror I noticed how the red hood version was decaying almost in front of my eyes.  It literally over a short period of time completely fell apart.  Eventually it went to the garbage can.  The black hood version seems to be holding on okay, but I check it often.  Franklin Mint really dropped the ball on these two.

George, I feel your pain. These two models are displayed together over a doorway in my family room. They are at a height that I can't see them from the floor. I'm afraid of getting a ladder and looking at them closely for what I might see.

By the original images, great little models. It is a real shame when poorly mixed metals latter cause all this damage. What could have been…………?

Sorry to hear that that's happened to so many models. I don't have a whole lot of 1/24th left so I'm not sure if I'm having any issues with them. But I do see $ signs here by selling them off for parts. This way at least you could recoup a little bit of your cost.

I was hoping to get these pair for my collection but they never surface on Ebay or elsewhere, maybe the decay explains why I never see them on the second hand market.. I do have the yellow and black convertible, which is a lovely model hence why I was trying to get the combo of black & red... Cry
