Not a fan of this era Mercury Turnpike Cruiser but love the color combo. What bridge is that in the background John?

Opened November 1 1957. Don't call it the Mackinac Bridge though. It's pronounced: Mack-i-naw.
The car is a perfect time piece for the opening of the bridge. Terrific pictures John.
As a kid growing up in Northern Michigan, I lived about 1/2 hr from the bridge, a very confusing thing was the spelling and pronunciation of the name. To make matters worse, the city on the lower side of the bridge is Mackinaw City. It's spelled the way it sounds, unlike the bridge.
I've crossed that bridge more than times than I can count, every drive from the 1st to the most recent always terrifies me. I was 5 of 6, when we crossed it the 1st time, I cried the whole trip. I remember being all excited about going and half-way across, started screaming and didn't stop until we reached the other side.
When I drive it now, I grip the steering so tightly, my hands seemed fused to the steering wheel. Other bridges I've crossed bother me some too, but none as badly as the Mackinac. Funny thing, walking across it doesn't bother me at all, it's actually very cool to do so.

Beautiful model and pics John. That's one I'd love to get. 💯🤑
The '57 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser is a timeless piece of automotive history. It defined perfectly the access that car styling had come to. All the gadgets and gizmos were the stars over performance. I've always felt that the '57 Mercury overdid it better and bolder than any other car of the 50's decade. For that reason, I was excited that Danbury Mint gave us three variations of this nostalgic set of wheels in 1:24 scale.

John, thanks for the photos of one that I do not remember seeing.
not a great night for bridge driving in Hobart in 1975. The Monaro is housed in Launceston's Motor Museum.

@perrone1 Did that one several times last year when we went down for MLB Spring Training. I quite enjoyed it!
@geno Just imagine being in those two cars. You would have to wonder "why me Lord?"
