The Art Moderne designed 1938 Duesenberg Coupé Simone was the child of FM's Roger Hardnock and Raffi Minasian and was introduced with a back story that had many collectors fooled. Commissioned by wealthy Frenchman Gui de la Rouche and given the name "Simone" for his mistress. The coachwork for the 1937 Model J chassis was to be done by American coachbuilders Emmette (Hardnock) and Armand (Minasian) in the style of Figoni et Falaschi. When finished, it was shipped to France for final payment with plans to be shown at the 1939 World's Fair. With the advent of WWll, the car was lost to history with its existence rediscovered through design drawings found in a barn (by those two fakers). Those two had some real fun designing the body and interior for the chassis and surprisingly outsold previous Duesenberg models. The design was reprised with the black with orange/gold piping "Midnight Ghost".
While never a 1/1 scale car, the model sure gets noticed in my collection. The weight of this model is incredible...like a purple brick.
@bob-jackman Between the color scheme and that huge grinning grill, it always seemed to me like the perfect car for Batman's "Joker".
Someone is so excited about Coupe Simone, he is making a 1:1 car.
@chav Thanks, Chav. I can't wait to see the car completed.
+1, what an incredible project. I hope the wider community gets to see and understand all that has gone into the creation, especially of course its source. Cant help but think it is also a great opportunity to promote the model car collecting hobby.
