playing with the idea of painting the wheels on my 1911 Rolls Royce and would like to ask the community their opinion what would be the best color, FM did a beautiful job on this model with one exception....the wheels are simply white molded plastic which to my eye ruins the whole presentation of the model. I could go with a off white/cream white or would a completely contrasting color set of wheels be preferable....?
your thoughts appreciated.
I like what John Barry offered for options.

I agree with what you said and that was my EXACT disappointment/critique of this model. I said over all it’s a superb model. The tufted seats look great, the real cloth top fantastic but then the wheels..... in my review I said that they looked like what they were PLASTIC! This has always annoyed me as well and I will paint them one day OR find a badly distressed Rolls Ballon Roadster with real metal etched spoke rims and swap them out. Last.....
id def go with same body color of off white. This model doesn’t need any fanfare or contrasting elements. It’s stately and elegant as is IMO
Best answer is “Make the wheels whatever color pleases YOU”.
Was told there should be small screws beneath the center hubs, Trick will be removing them while not damaging them.
Kk. Was able to easily remove the center hubs using a single edge razor blade between the wheel and hub...using slight pressure under the hub rim turning the wheel started the hub. Then fingernail of thumb and forefinger was able to work the hubs loose ,there is a tiny Phillips head screw holding the wheel on.
the spare tire mounted on the passenger side is simply glued to the running board tire pan, unfortunately its glued quit firmly and will need the use of a Xacto no.11 blade to cut it out....it’ll be flat on the bottom when your done but that won’t show once you glue it back on.
when I start this project I’ll be sure to take pictures....
Ok so we’re back with the finished project, decided to air brush the wheels with Testor’s Pearl White acrylic
which came out nicely then decided to add just I touch of bling to them using a gold fine line paint pen....
definitely feel I finished what Franklin Mint should have done in the first place.
@larry-kemling That really looks great. That gold ring around the wheels really sets off the car, definitely looks better.
great effort Larry. Brad is spot on about the gold rim, well done!
Definitely appreciate the thoughts fellas, but I must warn anyone contemplating removing the wheels on this model that there are 4 ity bity flat washers in the wheels that you must absolutely take care not to lose. Without them the wheels will not stay on the hubs. And finding replacements will probably be a nightmare.
your choice of colors and methods suit this vehicle very well 👍 👍 👍
