In 1968, Plymouth offered a light weight, stripped down muscle car called the Road Runner. The base engine was a 335 HP 383 cid V8 whose performance was enhanced with 440 Super Commando heads. Base transmission was a four speed manual with the Torque Flite a few bucks more. All this muscle had a base price of $2870!!! Be still my beating heart. For $714 more, you could rule the world with the 425 HP 426 Hemi V8. I was 22 and making decent money and was considering trading in my 383 '65 Satellite CV for this high powered sleeper and then I got a letter in the mail that lead with "Greetings from the President of the United States...". I never did find out who the "friends and neighbors" were that selected me but I swore if I came home in one piece, I'd take my revenge. So while my buddies were burning up the strip, I was in Thailand driving a 1955 Plymouth sedan and 3 years later, when I got home, the muscle car era was over. This Danbury Mint model replicates a fully optioned Hemi hardtop ( the "Décor Group" was $79.20), but if you were serious, you stayed with the coupe.
